I am 25 and newly engaged to the man of my dreams. I have been blessed with 3 beautiful children from my first marriage, a 4 year old son & ID twin daughters that just turned 2! We live on the south end of wonderful Whidbey Island in Washington state.
In my spare time (mostly naps & after 9PM)I LOVE to sew & craft. I have tried to sell stuff here & there, I would really LOVE start teaching sewing lessons… but I need to get a second & 3rd machine first! Over the last 6 months I have realized that I am good at seeing an idea, or making it in my head & transitioning that too reality… most of the time with clothing & using no patterns! I am also interested in possibly designing patterns when the kids are a little older & in school. I also enjoy volunteering my extra time whenever I have any :).
With the struggling economy & the need to go green I have also been working on great inexpensive things that you can reconstruct/recycle into something else new all over again! Through out this I have talked to a lot of people… I am always getting asked how I did this, or where did you get that… then the ‘you only paid that much for it!’ This has giving me a flickering flame and I started blogging! I never thought people would read this blog… 1.5 years & 360,000+ hits later I was proven wrong. I enjoy inspiring people to give it a shot & love helping them with free patterns & tutorials. Because of this in the near future I hope to start 2 new weekly blogs… one will be about ways to save money & spend wisely… including stuff on how to get the best mileage from your vehicle & cut your grocery bill in half! The second blog is gonna be about garage selling! No matter what the reason it seems to be coming back into style which makes me happy because I never stopped loving it! I plan on sharing my loot, giving tips on how to get the most garage selling in, when to set limits & also how to through a awesome & profitable yard sale yourself!

I looked at your photo of your dining room, I was wondering if you made that cover for your high chair, if so I looking to make one for my high chair, right now it has the hard cracking plastic on it and want to make my own… I am fairly good with sewing but would love tips and tricks… I love making things instead of going out buying them cause I can pick my own colors and patterns… I am currently making car seat covers, seat belt covers, and head supports for car seats…. thanks for all the help and ideas….

I hope everything is ok with you, and sorry to hear about the “D”. I don’t like to say the whole word but, Im sure you don’t either. You’re a geat person and I thank you for putting this site up. It’s very helpful. All the other leg warmer ideas I’ve gotten were too difficult to understand. The idea on this page is alot better and self explanatory.

I found your blog through cafemom and I am so grateful!!! You have inspired and taught me so much through all your tutorials (either the ones you made or the ones you have links to). I have 3 children and a huge bag of Maternity clothes that have no where to go. I saw your 3-in-1 dress/shirt/skirt tutorial and have made a few of them out of maternity shirts for my daughters. You made it so easy to follow and I can finish one in less than a day! (I am a SAHM of a 4 year old, 2 year old and a 7 months old, so not a lot of time available!) I love the idea of taking clothes that my husband and I have and making clothes for our children. It helps us a lot. So, I just wanted to say thank you for your blog, your ideas and inspirations! I just found your site searching for crib sheet measurments…nice find. My great great nephew was born in September of 2009. Unfortunately, his parents just now received the “special order” crib set. Sadly the set did not include a crib sheet….I know!
Anyway, I have managed to find the exact print in bulk fabric so, I offered to make a crib sheet, pillow case, and curtains. Are all crib mattresses the same depth?
Generally with in 1″ of the same. You can always stretch the elastic out longer when sewing it on so that it pulls tighter that way it can fit better if it is by chance a tad thinner. But these should fit thicker ones with out a problem!

We’re expecting our second baby in June, a boy. Our first was a girl and we were careful to buy most big items in gender neutral, but we were given a travel lite pack and play that worked awesome as a bassinet in our room. Problem is it’s as pink as pink can be! Would you have any ideas on making a sort of slip cover for it out of some boyish fabric? I doesn’t have to be anything fancy and we only ever used it the first time with the basinett insert. Thanks for your time!

Jill besides making a sheet I really don’t have any suggestions! You could try slip covering it like you would a couch & then put the mattress in AFTER with a sheet but it will be no easy task & you have to be VERY careful because the fabric on the sides is breathable for a reason.

Then I went to the about you section and realized you dont live to far from me. I am in Kent WA. So I must ask…what is your favorite fabric store?
My favorite fabric store is Pacific Fabric’s in Everett. They aren’t the cheapest, but they have a great selection of high quality fabrics including designer fabrics & knits!
Hi! Have you ever made a fitted crib sheet (or two) from a full-size fitted sheet? I just thought that since the length of the crib matches the width that I wouldn’t have to start from scratch. Anyway, is it possible? And if so, do you have instructions? Thanks!
I have made 2 out of a full size sheet before, but you still end up having to do it from scratch, the pockets are simply to deep because a crib mattress is much thinner. I find full size flat sheets work the best because you have a little extra scrap making them more forgiving and you don’t have to cut off the elastic from the fitted. I just treat the flat sheet like fabric & cut out the size I need for the tutorial.

The Burda Style website does sell some of the individual patterns to print off at home, but they are much more expensive that way. There are only a few ways to order it in the US, I believe mine was from GLP News? Here is a link… http://www.glpnews.com/EN/Crafts/Burda1.html Unfortunately it has gone up quite a bit since I last subscribed, but it’s still a great deal for the shear number of patterns you get. It works out to $7.50 per issues & generally if you don’t like an issue you can resell it on Etsy for that much.

Hi… I love all your site.. I been threw some sewing machines but i have gotten to the point where I really want to invest in a good one (that will be with me for 2-3 years at least), my last purchase was a $50 machine (Singer Quick Fix ) but have seen too many bad reviews on it and I am wondering if I should return it or not. I am trying it out for at least two weeks to see if any problems occur but would like your opinion. HELP !!!
